Over the years singapore population has been increasing. It touches 5 mil in 2013. Hence it is putting burden on the existing infrastructure. Changi currently has three terminal capable of accomodating 66 mil pax per year. Currently t4 and jewel are being built and this should increase its capacity to 84 mil by 2017. In 2013 changi handled 51 mil pax. Klia recently opened klia2 with total capacity of 70 mil pax. In 2013 klia handled 48 mil pax. Going forward by 2025 singapore will need a t5. How else can changi get out of this congestion issue. With competition coming from bkk and klia, one logical solution is to build a hsr linking kl and singapore. The link could transport an estimate of 5 mil pax a year relieving the load off the road and airport. Another possible alternative is linking up senai and batam to changi. Batam linkage is via ferry whereas senai the option is by mrt or via 3rd link near pasir gudang area. There are currently 31 flights per day from kul to sin. Rough estimate the kul sin flight capacity is around 3.2mil pax per year. With hsr the slot from kl sin will be better utilise for other regional destination like jkt or hcmc. Thus i strongly think that hsr will be built sometime in 2025. Lets see how accurate is my prediction.
